Because Muni-Meter spaces do not specify a particular location where you have to park, you can pay for time at one meter and use it on any other street in the city with muni-meter parking. Check nyc.gov. it allows you to buy parking ticket from different location.

if you use pay and retain muni-meter(you keep the receipt, noneed to display it), you can not. Because the parking space# is on it.
