If the battery is down to zero and you are going uphill, what passing power do you have with the Prius? In a long highway driving, I don't see how you can save any gas with a hybird system, unless the highway is crowded like a city street, lots of stop and go.  The gas milage basically will be no better than a Yaris. If so, why bother buying a hybird car? Yaris or Corolla is a lot cheaper.
