Can I buy and insure a car in US as a Canadian citizen?

I have a second residence in USA, but I usually spend less than 6 months for each visit to US. I only have valid Canadian driver's license.

I am tempted to buy a nice second-hand MB here for occassional use. How complex it is for me to buy a car here, and more importantly to have the car insured?

Are there any snowbirds on this board in a similar situation?
