help needed

What a weekend for me! Yesterday late at night, I was on the way to pick up friends to go to the bar. I was parking in front of buidling waiting for my friends where they live. I turned off engine. I turned back on after they got into the car. Then something happened: I could not shift the gear and the gear selector stuck in park. We had to call the toll truck to get the car back to parking garage. The guy who had helped me to toll the car has been a mechanic for quite a while. Of course, he is much bigger and stronger than me. He tried and worked. The gear had moved from "P" to "D". But I still can't do it. The car is Jaguar 200?  V8 S-type.

 

Anybody can help me here? I will be really appricated.
