SUV isn't suitable for most people, unless you are a enthusiast of off-road driving... If not and you need a large cargo space, get a minivan.

In 2002, my wife insisted in buying a small SUV as she saw other friends driving it, looking cool... We bought a Subaru Forester L. After a few months, she realized it's uncool - uncomfortable, noisy, high gas consumption... within 2 years, we got rid of it and bought a car... without the learning curve, she might still think SUV being fun...

Among many cars, I would recommend -
If you want a large size car, look at Impala
If you like a midsize one, look at Malibu
If you can't resist the temptation into thinking Japanese cars being superior (as most Chinese do, sadly), look at Altima (it has a very nice hybid too), the only one outscores against Accord and Camry.
