Do I need to repair or replace some parts of brake now or

I can wait for sometime, say a couple of months? My BMW X5 brake light is on, and message says that CHECK BRAKE LININGS. My dealer says that I should replace some part of the brake right now. My BMW X5 is just four years and three months and only 25000 miles and dirve most times in local.
