I suggest you ask a friend who is an expert for help. If you are not confident about the car itself, you should not buy it. Dealing with seller about price and possible repair is another issue which a good mechanic may not help at all. You should separate those two, first make sure you are looking at a reliable used car you would like to drive everyday. Second make a reasonable offer taking into account immediate repair/maintenance cost. It is hard to say a small dealership is more trustworthy than an individual. I have bought more than 15 used cars for my family and friends and every time, I found seller was cheating and hiding some problems, or giving you false information for price.
