Don't put too many options on it.
Ideally manual transmission. Its auto is made by GM and is not that responsive. Taking away a lot of sportiness.

You can also consider CPO (Certified Pre-Own) BMW cars. You can go to http://www.bmwusa.com to look at CPO inventory in your area.
