Generally speaking, the cost will be higher; In some critical electronic parts it will be extremely expensive. Since the technology is new and more complicated, most shops can't fix it, only dealer can (inside a dealer only one or two were trained for that). In the event your hybrid is wrong and happens to be in that area, you are virtually stuck - you'll have to wait until the technicians have time/parts to fix yours. If your car is still under warranty, it might be ok as dealer will give you a loaner car, otherwise, you are in big trouble - the money and inconvenience will bite you.
