I think it may work on agaist trasmission
the reason is that when you brake and move handle from D to P, you do it in a fast fashion. It means the transmission does not actually go to N and R (no time to respond). If you change the procedure, the transmission now has to go to N, adding extra steps.
BTW, all cars are designed from D to P. There might be some design characters to prevent the wear at minimum level (my guess)
