J.S.Sargent:

In his earty portraits, J.S. Sargent detailed more at least on dress. As a rule he painted strickly from life, but if say that is a mechanical copy of nature is not true, how to balance the art and reality there is less room on face, with a model in front one is in a better condition to express more usually.
I am painting a lady whose face is tanned by outdoor life the last time I painted her,  therefore I have to change it to be lighter.
