Just want to have a place online that I keep a journal to 1) record my children's growth; 2) write something for myself.

Suggestions from the Professional

Met with an interior designer Ms. D. This is not the first interior designer I worked with. However the last two did not work out that well. Mainly it is because I was not ready. It is my first house. I was young and overwhelmed and distracted by too many other things in life, new baby, a dissertation to finish, a new job, new preps, etc. I was not sure what styles I liked or worked the best for me. Anyway when my friend M, a warm elderly lady, recommend Ms. D, I decided to make it work this time. D came to my house and measured the living room and windows. I told her my priorities. D visited me the second time yesterday and offered her suggestions. They actually all make sense this time.

1.       The fake wood blinds have to go: She didn’t like it. I already knew that it didn’t work. It is too heavy, looking cheap in my grand living room. However the proposed blinds will cost $6,800 which I am not sure whether I want it so desperately for now.

2.       The couch and coffee table have to be gone. Their style simply does not match with the Asian style of the rest of the house. I can live with the current couch for now. Now on my priority list.

3.       The antique Japanese silk panel paintings can be hang above the piano. I would trust her on this although originally I thought it would be too much cranes. No new purchase necessary.

4.       The new dining set is beautiful yet everything match too much. The solution is to move the two end chairs next to the window in the living room. Need to purchase a little table to put it in between the two chairs. Estimate maybe $300?

5.       Need a couple lamps in the living room, which I totally agree. Estimate cost around $400?

6.       Need a new piece of furniture in the entry. The current antique piece from grandma F is too small. Estimate $600?

7.       Need a new fountain for the front door. The function of the new fountain is to bring some of the favorite colors from inside to the outside. Good idea. Estimate cost $500.

Total estimated cost would be close to $2,000 including labor or consulting fee from Ms. D. It will be worth it!!!
