From director Hugh Hudson ("Chariots of Fire," "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan") comes a very special film about love and war. Set in the chaotic, emotionally charged days of the Revolutionary War, Academy Award-winner Al Pacino ("Scent of a Woman," "The Godfather") and the object of his obsessive desire, Nastassja Kinski ("Tess," "Cat People") are caught up in the violent and bloody war. "A thrilling vision of our country's birth pangs," exclaims the Los Angeles Times. "No other film has made American history come so alive," praises L.A. Weekly. "A superb, intensely human, beautifully produced, directed film. One of the very best of the year. Absolutely brilliant," (KCBS-TV). Co-starring Golden Globe-winner Donald Sutherland ("A Time to Kill," "Outbreak"), Oscar-nominee Joan Plowright ("Enchanted April"), Steven Berkoff ("War and Remembrance"), and singer-actress Annie Lennox.
"My mom is Huron. My father is La Francaise. I hate "L'anglais: Whoever killed my enemy is my friend."
Your cause was not for freedom, but for your loved one"
His son "Ned" love his friend Merle: Only a war is to fight for a grass rooted is worth fighting for - for the most public, which is a solid cause.
the ordinary folks became scouts for Washington's army.
This movie was very much like "Braveheart". For me the most gripping scene was when the was holding his son as the Indians were treating his feet. I felt that pain - their acting was so good. Also a great ending, with Al Pacino notions for why American Revolution was fought!
Best part is the story. Wonderful portrayal of actual events/history. Since beginning of time ther has always bn greedy leaders wanting to conquer. In 18th century 1700s was the British and French. England went into Canada, South Africa, Canada. They tried to do it to America but we fought back and won. The best scene for Pacino was trying to keep his son awake/alive. Very well done. Impressive
Like many myopic 'Revolutionary War' movies, this myopic adaptation gives the French all the glory for their assistance yet, they failed to mention Spain and predominantly General Galvez, whom fought the British at the South from the colonies and kept the British at bay from ever joining General Cornwallis up north. Also, the hundred of thousands of, gun powder, ammunition, muskets, and textile for the uniforms of the "Continental Army," and silver, nor the fact, that at Lexington on Washington's right when the British surrendered. You're welcome.
A much more historically accurate movie than Gibson's "The Patriot." The experience of Tom Dobb was much closer to the truth for most soon-to-be-Americans than Gibson's ridiculous character.
I saw it in 1985, and didn't like it. I viewed it on You Tube in 2023, and still didn't like it. It was a box office bomb in its day, losing millions. They did spend a lot on the film. The production values are very good, and the crowd scenes are extensive. The colonists came across as unpleasant, and the English as arrogant cruel and effeminate. The mood of the picture is quite dark, probably due to the weather and a cramped production schedule. Almost every scene is rainy, overcast or gray. What little sun that appears was shot either very late in the day or very early. Braveheart experienced the same problem with bad weather but managed to keep its audience. Here, even America's victory comes across as bitter and sour. It's a message laden film that needed brighter characters and weather.
Epic film, that shows pretty accurately, the events, challenges, that led to the Revolution, and more. 10All that those brave Patriots fought for, and created for us, has been tossed aside, in the trashcan by today's Marxist Left Media & Politicians. American Culture, and the peoples Love for our once great Nation, has been trampled to the dust, by those greedy, Corporate leaders, who bought out the politicians and Electorate, to make themselves even more rich. All while We the People suffer with Worsened Education, Jobs, Systemic Racist Affirmative Actions, and an Economy that is plummeting to the depths of the oceans. I pray that we return to Constitutional Rule of Law and the Declaration of Independence soon. If America does not, then the turn into a Tyrannical governed Communist Nations will be finalized by the Marxist Democrats, across the lands. & Thousands of s for us all.
This cost over 28 million to make and got less than half a million in ticket sales. I can why. For one thing it was filmed in England and it shows. Badly cast and poorly filmed...it's a waste for a subject that deserved better.
// The film "Revolution," directed by Hugh Hudson, explores one aspect of the American Revolution where children take the lead, and reluctant parents follow their cause. Set during the chaotic and emotionally charged days of the Revolutionary War, the story revolves around Al Pacino's character, caught up in a violent and bloody conflict. The film portrays the love and war intertwined during this historical period. Critics have praised it as a thrilling and intensely human portrayal of the birth pangs of the country, bringing American history alive on screen. The movie features an ensemble cast, including Nastassja Kinski, Donald Sutherland, Joan Plowright, and singer-actress Annie Lennox. While some viewers have commended its portrayal of actual events and historical accuracy, others have criticized its production values and casting choices. The film's box office performance was disappointing, despite its substantial budget.
