英國/德國的 Boney M 演唱組是70 - 80年代非常引人矚目的一個迪斯科節奏的流行演唱組，樂隊成員來自四麵八方，有的來自西印度群島，有的來自牙買加。製作人是弗朗可.菲林(Frank Farian)。

對 於20多年前的中國青年而言，Boney M 的歌曲可謂再熟悉不過。當年沒有迪廳，按捺不住快樂欲望的年輕人就在自己家裏，悄悄地隨著“板兒磚”錄音機或者雙喇叭錄音機裏播放的《巴比倫河》和《爸爸 真酷》歌曲的旋律快樂起舞，甚至由此帶來了“黑燈舞會”的流行。隨後，這股迪斯科旋風越刮越猛，也帶動了一股時尚潮流，“迪斯科舞會”逐步公開化，迪斯科 這個名詞也從那個時候延續至今。
1977年他們以一曲“Daddy Cool”紅極一時，從歐洲演出到美國。由於他們身上特有的迪斯科韻味，又正好趕上當時美國風行迪斯科熱潮，因而大受歡迎。他們擅長將一些老歌改編成迪斯科節奏的舞曲，而給他們改編的老歌總是別具一格，重放異彩，一下成為熱門歌曲，令歌迷拍案叫絕。

《巴比倫河》創作背景
巴 比倫河在美索不達米亞平原，位於伊拉克和 伊朗之間。據說《巴比倫河》的曲調最初是牙買加的民間音樂，1969年歌手Brent Dowe, Tony Brevette, and Trevor McNaughton根據《聖經》之讚美詩137：1填詞，歌詞的大意是：公元前586年，奴役者命令流放在巴比倫的猶太人一起唱歌。但此時此刻猶太人那 有心情唱歌，因為他們的聖城耶路撒冷已被敵人占領，要唱的話，也隻能是大聲唱出自己的心聲－－自由。1972年《巴比倫河》收錄在音樂片《the Harder they come》, 該片向世界展示了優美的牙買加的民間音樂。1978年，BONEY M 首次演唱《巴比倫河》（歌詞略作改動），在歐洲樂壇引起巨大轟動，單曲銷量創下了英國 唱片史上的紀錄。隨後兩三年，他們的許多歌在世界各個排行榜占有一席之地。
